Available but not Reliable
Available but not Reliable
In every given profession or occupation, what an employer seek for in his or her employees is their commitment and availability. In the business circle, every customer expect his or her seller to be available when called upon.
In some profession workers are mandated to be punctual, some are mandated to write down their time of resumption at work everyday so as to ensure readiness and commitment in the place of work. If human reasoning and understanding demands such a thing how much more God whom we serve.
However, many people have used the word 'availability' to replace 'reliability' I.e when you see someone very much available you tend to believe he or she is Reliable. These two words are totally different. Someone can be very much available and not be reliable and vise-versa.
In order to be a good steward, one must be found worthy of the two. God don't just need men around, He wants men that He can count on. He don't just want quantity but He wants quality. That's why the Bible says God looks at the inward part of every man.
For God to count on you, you must be available and reliable for His service. A lot of Christians nowadays can't be relied upon, many are distracted even while they are serving God, many delegate the work of God in their hands to others just because they feel there is a need to concentrate on their own business. This is not the Christianity God demands from us or let me say this is not the service God demands from us. Service to God is a sacrifice which must be tested not only with our level of availability but with our level of reliability.
In rendering a genuine service to God you must be totally Reliable.
Romans 12:1 says *"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service" the last sentence in that verse says "which is your reasonable service" which means there are services which are not reasonable and acceptable by God. Therefore in order to for God to count your services it must be sacrificial and been reliable in the things of God is a sacrifice.
God wants men that He can send without looking back, He wants men that He can rely on totally to carry out His assignment without failing Him. What saddens me is that there are very few or little Christians who are really reliable in their service to God. God found David as a reliable man, that was why He instructed Samuel to anoint him. David was a Shepherd and not just a Shepherd, but a diligent one. (Acts 13:22)
Reliability comes with diligence and this is what God wants. God hates lukewarmness but delight in consistency.
If God finds you faulty in little things, He can never rely on you on bigger things. This is why, even in Jesus ministry despite the fact that the appointment of His disciples was divine, Judas Iscariot was still found unreliable amidst them all.
Apostle Paul also had this same complain in 2Timothy 4:10-11 "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world and is departed unto Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry."
Demas once started the ministry with Paul being available in the body but the test of his reliability was crippled by the things of this world, by so doing he forsook Paul.
Can you ask yourself this, have I not forsaken God because of my unreliability?
Can God even count on me for His assignment?
This is the question I want us to answer. God wants us to keep burning for Him, He wants us to keep our focus on Him, He doesn't want us to doubt or look back. If your service to God has been a story of lukewarmness and unreliability, it is time to change, it is time to stay focused and be passionate for God. God don't just want our availability what He wants is our Reliability
